Kumho Tire U.S.A. is taking a different approach to tire sales and dealer education. Rather than relying on spec sheets and marketing claims, the company has launched an aggressive series of ride and drive events across the United States, giving dealers, retailers, and content creators the chance to test tires in real-world conditions before recommending them to customers.
What Happened at the Washington Event
In Monroe, Washington, Kumho hosted a major regional event at Evergreen Speedway, drawing more than 70 dealers, journalists, and content creators. Participants got behind the wheel to evaluate two flagship tire models: the Road Venture HT and the Crugen GT Pro. The event featured multiple driving modules designed to reveal how these tires perform under different conditions.
The test course included a wet handling section to assess grip and safety in rainy conditions, an autocross focused on braking response and vehicle control, and higher-speed freeway driving to evaluate ride quality, handling precision, and passenger comfort. Kumho engineers and product specialists also conducted educational sessions, explaining the development process, performance characteristics, and answering dealer questions directly.
This hands-on approach resonated strongly with participants. Chris Corwin, director of procurement at Discount Tire & Service Centers, emphasized that actual driving experience trumps any marketing material. “A spec sheet has never sold a tire to a customer standing at our counter,” Corwin noted, highlighting the value of real seat time over a traditional sales pitch.
The Bigger Picture: A National Program
The Monroe event is part of Kumho’s larger 2026 Ride & Drive initiative. The company has already engaged more than 600 participants across five U.S. cities through regional events, with plans to hold final sessions in Detroit and St. Louis in September. This investment signals Kumho’s commitment to dealer confidence and product credibility.
Ed Cho, CEO of Kumho Tire U.S.A., explained the strategy: “You can read all about a tire, but nothing compares to driving it yourself. These events give our dealers, wholesale partners and retail partners the opportunity to experience firsthand how our latest tires perform in real-world driving situations.” The company has indicated it plans to continue this program into 2027.
The Products Being Tested
The Road Venture HT, launched earlier this year, targets light truck and SUV owners. Kumho engineered it to deliver improved wet and snow traction, longer tread life, and a quieter driving experience. A key feature for modern shoppers: the Road Venture HT is compatible with electric vehicles. Kumho backs H- and V-speed rated models with a 75,000-mile treadwear warranty, while W-speed models include a 65,000-mile coverage.
The Crugen GT Pro is designed for owners of larger crossovers and SUVs who prioritize comfort and all-weather capability. The tire launches in 85 different sizes, which Kumho says covers more than 85 percent of today’s crossover and SUV market. Like the Road Venture HT, the Crugen GT Pro H- and V-speed versions carry a 75,000-mile warranty, with W-speed models backed by 65,000 miles.
What This Means for Shoppers
This news matters to tire buyers in several ways. First, when you visit a tire shop, the staff recommending products to you will have hands-on experience with current offerings. That translates to better-informed recommendations tailored to your vehicle and driving habits. Second, manufacturers investing in dealer education typically stand behind their products with confidence. The scale of Kumho’s 2026 program suggests the company believes in its latest tire technology.
Third, the focus on real-world testing conditions, particularly wet handling and braking performance, reflects safety priorities that should matter to consumers. Modern tire technology encompasses more than simple durability; it addresses responsive handling, comfort, and all-weather reliability.
Shoppers looking for tires should ask their retailer whether staff have tested the specific models you are considering. In an industry where marketing claims often overshadow genuine performance differences, firsthand dealer experience becomes a valuable asset. The fact that a tire manufacturer is investing significant resources to ensure dealers understand product strengths and limitations speaks to transparency and long-term confidence.
Looking Ahead
As tire technology continues to evolve, with developments in EV-specific designs and advanced grip compounds, dealer education becomes increasingly important. Shoppers benefit when retailers can articulate not just what a tire offers, but why it delivers that performance. Kumho’s expanded testing program represents a growing trend among tire makers to bridge the gap between engineering and the retail counter. For consumers shopping for tires this year and next, this emphasis on dealer knowledge should lead to more confident purchases and better matches between tire and vehicle.
